| In The News ... Indian Lake Hills Golf Course, Eau Claire, Michigan
Located between Eau Claire and Dowagiac in Southwestern Michigan is a fun set of courses known as Indian Lake Hills Golf Course. Out of the 27 holes laid out as the East, West, and North Courses you can determine your own 18-hole round.
Want a short course? Then put the East & West courses together for 6,043 yards of enjoyment.
Want something a little longer and a bit more scenic? After playing the East course, turn your golfcart to the North course for 6,201 total yards and a beautiful layout complete with hills, water, and trees.
Need to "round out" your round with an even bigger challenge? Combine the West & North for a 6,532-yard test of your skills.
Just off Indian Lake, the East Course was the original 9 holes that opened in the early 1920s. This little gem succeeded and the West Course was added in the 1960s to accommodate the growing number of golfers enticed to play Indian Lake Hills. Again, seeing the continued increase in play, the North Course opened in 1992. Lynn and Steve Miller (resident Pro) have owned the course since 1982 and have kept much of its management within the family. Daughter Sue Miller serves as Manager.
The East Course is lined with many tall trees along its rolling terrain. The Signature Hole # 5 is a 185-yard Par-3 requiring a tee shot over water to an elevated green.
The West Course is the straightest layout of the three, but with all its hills and green placements, it is not necessarily easy. The Signature Hole is again # 5. This time it's a 346-yard Par-4 played downhill (and often side-hill) to an interesting green tucked in the corner of the course and surrounded by trees.
The North Course combines a number of elements throughout. There are many tall trees, several wide-open landing areas, tight approaches, water and even some apple orchards. The Signature Hole of the North (you guessed it!) is # 5; a 511-yard Par-5 that winds downhill with a slight dog-leg to the left. The tee shot is to a wide-open area, but the fairway gets progressively tighter as it heads down to the green. Although the green is receptive sloping towards the oncoming player, it is heavily guarded by tall trees, a small indentation in the front and water to the back. You can eagle it, but you can triple-bogey it as well.
According to Sue Miller, updates to the course have included repairing and replacing most of the irrigation and drainage systems. Sue adds that "with 27 holes, we can host an Outing and still have 9 or even 18 holes open for the public." Indian Lake Hills Golf Course hosts many Outings throughout the season. If interested, call early to get your date scheduled.
The Indian Lake Hills Golf Course provides many amenities including a 20-acre driving range with an elevated grass tee box.
The Landmark on the Lake Restaurant located in the Clubhouse is an added bonus for Outings and individuals alike. Many grill items are available as well as a fully-stocked bar. The covered picnic shelter just outside is ideal for barbecues of almost any kind and can seat many people.
Indian Lake Hills Golf Course is one of the best deals you'll find for golf in the Michiana Area. The 27 holes with very reasonable greens fees along with the food & drink items available, are a combination that's hard to find anywhere.
