Lake Michigan Hills Golf Club, established in 1969, features a classic design masterpiece by Charles Maddox Sr. Formed from a fruit orchard, the Lake Michigan Hills layout includes lush tree-lined fairways and elevation changes that are atypical for the Great Lakes. Golf Digest consistently rates this gem as a 4-Star venue and one that is always a top golfing destination in Southwest Michigan.

Lake Michigan Hills boasts a rich history of great golf. As host to the Western Amateur Qualifier, several golfing greats such as Kenny Perry, Adam Scott and Payne Stewart have faced the Lake Michigan Hills challenge on their way to successful golfing careers.

The challenge begins from the 455-yard Par-4 first hole, which offers an ample landing area. The second shot is to a green that slopes away from the golfer with bunkers protecting the front of the green and hazards to the left and right. For the everyday golfer, the smart play is to lay up and play the hole as a Par-5.

Lake Michigan Hills offers great scenery and elevated tees featuring a memorable view of the first hole from the clubhouse.

The challenge continues as the front nine progresses with the real challenge being the shot into the green. Even though the greens are large, almost all of the greens are well protected with bunkers and elevations ... creating the need for an extra club on your approach shot. As former club champion lan Davidson has said, "Play for the center of the green on every shot and if you hit it close to the hole, it's an accident."

After making the turn, you will find yourself with another elevated tee on the Par-5 tenth hole. This one is a great chance for birdie if you can manage to avoid the trees on this tight fairway. Hole # 10 finishes on a double green that shares space with Hole # 7. From Holes # 11 - # 16, you will have several short holes that require accuracy from the tee and large undulating greens that will challenge your putting expertise.

When you reach Hole # 17, you'll face a Par-3 that is 226 yards from the tip with an elevated green where you might need to "club up" two or three clubs to make the large green. And once on the green, you might face a fast downhill putt that breaks at 20 feet.

The finishing hole at Lake Michigan Hills is a real sleeper. Although it only plays 365 yards from the back tees, keeping your tee shot in the fairway is vital. With a big bunker guarding the left side of the green and a tree protecting the right side, Hole # 18 is no easy birdie hole.
