| In The News ... Warren Golf Course at Notre Dame (NE of South Bend, Indiana), a MichianaGolf.com 5-Star Certified Course
If seeking the luxurious private country club golf experience, at an affordable public course price, you need to search no further than the Warren Golf Course at Notre Dame. The rich history, sheer beauty, and preeminent conditions of this outstanding golf course rival many private country club settings. Sports fans across the country are very familiar with University of Notre Dame football program, however this can overshadow one of the best semi-private golf courses in the country, and available for public play. Truly a hidden gem!
The Warren Golf Course came into being thanks to the generosity of William K. Warren, Jr. (Notre Dame, Class of 1956) and is dedicated to the memory of his parents, Natalie O. and William K. Warren Sr. The course features a beautiful traditional layout deserving of the Notre Dame name and was designed by Ben Crenshaw and Bill Coore. It is a certified Audubon Sanctuary and has hosted more than 15 prestigious tournaments and championships for the NCAA, USGA and the Western Golf Association.
Since the 1999 opening, Warren Golf Course has received numerous honors and favorable reviews from well-respected golf publications:
- Golfweek, 2008: America's Best Courses: State-by-State Ranking of Best Public Access Courses, Number 2 course in Indiana
- Golf Digest, 2002: "Places to Play"
- Golf Digest, Best New Courses of 2000: Number 5 in Affordable Public Division
- Golf and Travel Magazine, 2001: 40 Best Daily Fee Courses: Number 33 in United States (only course in the state of Indiana ranked)
- Chicagoland Golf Magazine: Five Star Rating (highest rating)
- Golf Magazine, 2001: "Top 10 You Can Play:" Honorable Mention (one of only 35 courses in the country chosen)

Many professional athletes and famous players have enjoyed playing the course, including; Jerry Pate, J.B. Holmes, Anthony Kim, Tom Fazio, Pete Dye, Charles Schwab, Joe Theismann, Joe Montana, Rocket Ismail, Lou Holtz, Bo Jackson, and Alice Cooper; to name but a few.
General Manager & Head Pro John Foster describes Warren as "one of the most impeccably maintained courses in the Midwest." And we couldn't agree more! Walk-mowed greens, hand-raked bunkers, laser-aligned mow lines and blown free grass clippings throughout the entire golf course provide outstanding play conditions all season long. The traditional layout reminiscent of the Donald Ross and Alistair Mackenzie designs of the 20's and 30's, make for a memorable golfing experience.
In 2005, all 95 bunkers were re-drained, re-lined and re-sanded with some of the softest imported sand found on any course in Michiana. An intermediate cut (rye) was added to all holes in 2007. As one would expect, you will find everything you need at Warren including some of the newest golf carts on the market with GPS, a driving range, practice chipping and putting areas, club rental, an impressive Pro Shop, club cleaning, on course drinks/snacks, pull carts, locker rooms with showers and a 19th hole lounge to complete a wonderful golf experience.
Make time to play Warren Golf Course at Notre Dame. It may very well be the best course you play all season!
