| In The News ... Juday Creek Golf Course, Granger, Indiana, a MichianaGolf.com 4-Star Certified Course
Some people might buy new golf clubs to relax. Mike and Linda Rogers, however, sought a serious challenge and decided to build a new golf course.
The Rogers owned a chain of five Lindy's restaurants in Michiana. In 1985, the couple decided to sell all but the original in Dowagiac and take it easy. Semi-retirement proved to be a bit too relaxing for the energetic couple. "We thought maybe we'd get into the golf business and take the winters off," Mike said. After looking for a year, they realized it made the most sense to build a new course and a residential development along with it to finance the project.
Juday Creek Golf Course opened for its first full-season in 1989. Juday Creek is an 18-hole Championship Course that is perfect for all levels of players from beginners to experienced players. The course is 6,940 yards long and features a rating of 134 and a slope of 73.7. There are 13 holes with water and 56 bunkers to keep players on their toes, as well as 5 sets of tees to make the course playable. In addition, trees that were new in 1989 are now formidable and can certainly affect a player's game. Numerous celebrities have played Juday Creek, from Notre Dame Alumni to former Chicago Bears Coach Mike Ditka.
Improvements and upgrades have been made to the course from year to year with the addition of Junior Tees in 2008. "We will continue to provide a quality course at reasonable prices for our players," says General Manager Michelle Wittig. Bunker renovations are next on the agenda.
The course staff is outstanding. They are friendly, knowledgeable and make everyone feel welcome. Golf lessons are available with Teaching Professional Jim Garrett. Jim is the Penn High School Boys and Girls Golf Coach. He has won three State Championships and was also awarded National Coach of the Year.
Another noteworthy feature of the Juday Creek course is the great short-order menu that is available from the Snack Shop at the turn or from the lounge on weeknights.
Juday Creek hosts many tournaments and outings such as the Spring Scramble and their Turkey Tourney, a big hole tournament that has players bringing in frozen turkeys for donation to local charities.
If you're looking for a fun, challenging and beautiful course; Juday Creek is great experience for golfers of all ages and expertise.

Granger, Indiana, a little more ... | | |
Granger is a "census-designated place" (CDP) and a suburb of South Bend, in St. Joseph County.
Penn-Harris-Madison School Corporation and the South Bend School Corporation maintain the public schools in the area. Granger is part of the Michiana area.
Due to the accelerated growth of the city of Mishawaka, within the next 20 years, half of the Granger area will be annexed in Mishawaka under the 2025 city plan of Mishawaka as discussed in the 2005 State of the City address in Mishawaka. Currently portions along SR23, Gumwood Rd, University Dr, Cleveland Rd, Fir Rd, & Capital Ave have been annexed into the city of Mishawaka.
Within 20 years the city boundary will extend as far north as the Indiana/Michigan state line and as far east as the St. Joseph County/Elkhart County county line.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 26.2 square miles, all of it land. However, this amount will be decreasing over the next few years.
