In The News ... Klinger Lake Country Club, Sturgis, Michigan, a MichianaGolf.com 4-Star Certified Course
Klinger Lake Country Club is located between Sturgis and White Pigeon on Highway US-12 in southern Michigan, just a few miles from the Indiana stateline.
Many who take to the course at Klinger Lake Country Club for the first time, look at the yardage (6,259 yards from the back tees) and the seemingly innocent holes viewable from the Clubhouse, and figure this is the day they will smash their handicaps. About four hours later, most walk off the course wondering what happened as their scores reflect a much tougher challenge than expected.
In 1938, Klinger Lake Country Club opened as a 9-hole course designed by Maurie Wells. Due to early success, the Back 9 was added and designed by the Club Pro at the time, Jimmie Miller. The layout of the land is spectacular. Skirting the edges of popular Klinger Lake, rolling hills are an understatement. They are everywhere with some being quite the climb. Only the very fit should consider walking this course.
Nearly all of the tee boxes are much lower or elevated from the greens. The views from the tees alone make this a fun course to play. Do you enjoy a good dog-leg or two? How about four? Two of these are 90 degree turns; one left and one right. After overcoming the hills, trees, sand, water, and dog-legs, the player finally reaches the small, but manicured greens. They are fast and not many of them are flat. A few are treacherously sloped.
You will thank your Higher Power that this is not a course of more than 7,000 yards. This is not to say a player cannot score at Klinger Lake Country Club. The best advice is to be conservative on club selection. A driver is not always needed and often ill-advised.
As expected, there are many amenities at Klinger Lake Country Club; club cleaning & storage, on-course drinks/snacks/restrooms, driving range (free), practice putting green, and a practice chipping green with a few large sandtraps to hone your skills from!
Recent changes or updates include new tee boxes, remodeling the Ladies locker room, and renovating the pool. The Pro Shop and Clubhouse are beautiful and staffed with very friendly people. After, or before, your round of golf you can enjoy the fine food and fully-stocked bar in the Grill Room or stay for dinner at the Klinger Lake Country Club Dining Room. You can't miss either way.
Klinger Lake Country Club may be private, but there are often chances to play the course. Just call, contact a member, or look for posted opportunities to do so. Your entire day will be well-spent and memorable.

Sturgis, Michigan, a little more ... |  |  |
Sturgis is a city in St. Joseph County.
In 1827, Judge John Sturgis came to the St. Joseph Valley area in southern Michigan territory and settled in what is now Sturgis. The original site of his home can be seen at Pioneer Park, maintained by the City of Sturgis. The area's population grew in size and, in 1896, the town became a city.
Sturgis is the home of a Ross Products division of Abbott Laboratories and was once the home for Kirsch Company. Located in Sturgis is Burr Oak Tool Inc, which claims to be the largest producer of fin lines, fin dies, expanders, benders, and single-tube cutoff machines in the world, and just north of Sturgis is Kirsch Municipal Airport.
Each year, in the third week of May, Sturgis serves as the kickoff city for Michigan Week. Many prominent political figures walk in the parade annually. These include State Representatives, State Senators, as well as State Governors and U.S. Congresspeople.
Sturgis is a sister city to Wiesloch, Germany.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 6.0 square miles, all land.
