| In The News ... Pretty Lake Golf Club, Plymouth, Indiana
The Pretty Lake Golf Club, a premier family-oriented club, was built in 1923 as a 9-hole private country club with local Elkhart architect Royal L. Simmons commissioned for the design. Mr. Albert R. Gates, then president of the distinguished Western Golf Association, declared that the newly opened Pretty Lake Golf Club was one of the finest clubhouses and grounds of any city in the region.
In 1967, the Club expanded the golf course to eighteen holes along with adding three tennis courts and a swimming pool.
Challenging and rewarding, the Pretty Lake Golf Club course offers both short and long holes, left and right doglegs as well as several uphill and downhill approaches that feature a wide variety of mature trees across an undulating terrain. The condition of the course is truly wonderful -- due in large part to Superintendent Ryan Cummings, with assistance from a new irrigation system (completed June 2008).
From 1974 until 1978 Pretty Lake Golf Club was host to the LPGA Hoosier Classic featuring 4 different winners: Joanne Carner, Betsy Cullen, Pat Bradly and Debbie Austin.
The late great golfer Payne Stewart once held the Pretty Lake Golf Club course record. During the 1979 golf season, Stewart shot a record 63 that stood for nearly three decades until local Plymouth resident and member Justin Murphy scored a 62 on September 24, 2007.
What separates the Pretty Lake Golf Club from many other facilities are their amenities. You'll enjoy the championship golf, men's and women's golf leagues, junior golf, complete practice facilities, a full slate of tournaments, newly surfaced tennis courts, two basketball goals, a new clubhouse (opened September 2002), and numerous social events. There is something for everyone at the Pretty Lake Golf Club!
Another feature that separates the Pretty Lake Golf Club from other facilities is that they encourage public play each Monday throughout the season. This is a fantastic opportunity for you to experience the Pretty Lake Golf Club's wonderful course!
While there, be sure to visit the newly stocked golf shop. Under the direction of PGA Professional, Pat Bayley, the PCC Golf Shop offers the finest in apparel and equipment. If you are in the market for new clubs, the club offers custom fit clubs from Nike, Ping, Titleist and TaylorMade.
After your outing, be sure to visit the Pretty Lake Golf Club Restaurant, guided by Head Chef Stacey Garbison. In addition to great food, the restaurant also features space perfectly suited for meetings and parties. While a full-service private club, the Pretty Lake Golf Club does enthusiastically support hosting parties, groups, business meetings, reunions, receptions, golf groups and golf outings for non-members.
Complete membership packages are available including special "Non-Resident Member" rates. To learn more about the Pretty Lake Golf Club, experiencing the course, hosting a golf group, or booking a party, please contact PGA Professional Pat Bayley at (574) 936-9008.

Plymouth, Indiana, a little more ... | | |
Plymouth is a city in, and is the county seat of Marshall County.
In 1926, Plymouth was chosen as the site of the now defunct Montgomery Ward's first retail outlet.
The annual Plymouth Blueberry Festival held each Labor Day, and centered in Plymouth's large Centennial Park, is attended by over 500,000 people, second in size to only the Indianapolis 500 for Indiana weekend events. The Blueberry Festival includes dozens of live musical acts on three stages, a large parade, several running events, bike tour, hot air balloon launch, car show, plenty of food vendors, and, of course, blueberries.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 7.0 square miles, of which 0.14% is water.
